Crescent Flags

The meaning of the Crescent on a flag varies by country and the origin of the flag. The crescent moon when combined with a star is an internationally recognized symbol of the Islamic faith. However many muslims reject the symbol as Islam has historically not had a symbol and because of it was an ancient pagan icon. The crescent moon is also part of the official emblem for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
